Tombstones

What's the story with tombstones? I noticed that you don't always get tombstones for sicarios that died attacking you. A bug maybe or a feature? Can someone explain how this feature works?

I've noticed that too. I always assumed they died where a structure is that was destroyed and rebuilt over where they died. It's a shame if you don't get the gold. Could it accumulate and be paid out the next time you click on a tombstone? I haven't paid attention. Now i will.

some are buried with tombstone and some are just cremated

You are probably right about that, but I don't feel that it accumulates

I thought it was two gold for every sicario you kill. But then, one day, I only got 1 gold for a tombstone.

You can get up to 6 Tombstones a day.

The value is determined by the rank of the dead sicario.
